Tuesday and Wednesday at 9:00 sharp is the castle at its calmest: the school groups have not arrived, the light through the stained glass is doing its best work, and you can stand in the apartments without somebody’s elbow. Sunday is the opposite — free entry for a very large city, and the terrace fills. If your only option is a weekend, go at opening and accept that you will share it.
Plan the visit around the closure rather than around the weather. Tuesday morning is the best two hours the castle offers, and Monday is not a gamble worth taking — it is simply shut.
